The King’s Men summons each man to walk like a real man by directing men to walk with Jesus—Who modeled authentic manhood—and to walk according to God’s Word—which teaches us God’s perspective on manhood.
A Teaching by Pastor Michael
* THE THREE WORLDS A MAN LIVES IN—THE THREE WORLDS A MAN FIGHTS IN
There is a battle raging. Unless a man identifies the battle field and enemy, and unless he has a strategic plan to win, he’s inadvertently planning on losing. 1 Peter 5:5-9; 2 Tim 4:6-8
Men are called to be the initiators—the ones who lead the way into this tough terrain of putting self aside, valuing character above convenience, and caring deeply for people. God is seeking for men in whom He can trust; men to whom He can entrust His “true riches.” These are the three worlds—battle fields - in which a man is called to rule (in this life). It is within these worlds—these battle fields—that God is training us for that glorious future reign:
A MAN’S INNER WORLD This is the world of his soul; his thoughts, motives, choices, attitudes, affections, words and deeds. He and he alone has control over these areas of his soul and he fully responsible and accountable to God for all he says, does, chooses and thinks.
God strengthens and empowers him, but he has the final say in these areas. Another way to say this is: God will help and train you so that you can control these areas, but He won’t do it for you—nor is He responsible for these areas. The battleground here is the man’s mind and affections. Whoever wins this area has won the man’s soul. A true warrior must conquer his sinful pulls: A man who is devoted to His Lord, purposeful, determined and accountable (not just to God, but to his brothers as well) will win this battle raging in his inner world. He will bring his spirit and soul and body into alignment with his Master, submitting himself to Jesus’ lordship so that he can partner with Him in His love for people.
“He who is slow to anger is better than the mighty, and he who rules his spirit than he who takes a city.” Proverbs 16:32
A MAN’S IMMEDIATE WORLD This is the world in which he is in direct contact: his family, his church family, his workplace, his neighborhood. A godly man doesn’t neglect his family, and he does all his work with equal dedication. Each task (no matter how small or large, how menial or glorious) he does wholeheartedly to his Lord (his Rewarder) and not for the approval of man.
The battleground here is his home front, the workplace, the Church family and his neighborhood. The man who trusts in His God and postures as shepherd / leader / father will see God’s awesome victory in his immediate world. He must “fight the good fight” in order to overcome the evil that would tempt him to compromise his integrity, diligence and unselfish love:
“Husbands, love your wives just as Christ loved the church and gave Himself up for her…. he who loves his wife loves himself.” Ephesians 5:25a, 28b
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord and not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, and there is no favoritism. Colossians 3:23
A MAN’S CULTURAL WORLD The godly man is a responsible citizen of heaven, a citizen of his city, state and country, a citizen of his world. We are in a cultural and spiritual battle today and it is fierce.
The enemy puts good and godly men to sleep by allowing them to be comfortable—and then deceives them to pursue a life of more and more comforts. Yes, God does give us all things richly to enjoy (1 Tim. 6:17-19). Yet, when comforts and conveniences become the main pursuit of our lives, we have slipped into idolatry.
When a man doesn’t practice contentment and neglects cultivating a thankful heart, and forgets his calling—to fight the good fight and to partner with Jesus in His love for people—the enemy deceives that man and lures him into a lifestyle of materialism, hobbies and toys; thus neutralizing his fierceness and rendering him ineffective while the battle rages on—the battle to which he is oblivious. As a citizen of heaven, he is called to do battle by being aware of what’s going on in his world, to pray and intercede for people (his family, church, community, world) and to take action as a citizen of his city, state, country and world—by voting, by speaking life and order into the chaos of his culture.
When a man doesn't do his part in his world, his passivity and apathy is fuel for the enemy; he unwittingly empowers liberal activists and immoral politicians and judges to rule our world (the world in which God gives us responsibility to be the salt and the light). Then, standards are lessened and infanticide (baby-killing—abortion), same sex marriages and other perversions start becoming the standard; all because men were passive and did not take their stand and do their part. We’re not called to make the world a perfect place—that will only happen in heaven. But we are called to use our influence as citizens (which is a stewardship entrusted to us by God) and to do our part. It’s time for men of God to destroy their idols, and to rise up and heed the call to “fight the good fight.” This is the final battle ground and a man must be both fierce and deeply caring to even enter into this battleground. Those men who love their toys, comforts, conveniences and other idols should not enter this battle field. They will end up despising their God who calls them to hate their lives in order to find them. Here’s what Jesus is saying to men today: “Repent of all your idols, put your hand to the plow, don’t look back, and follow Me—and I’ll make you fishers of men.”
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in His mighty power. Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” Ephesians 6:-12
This is not the time to sleep. This is the time to wake out of our sleep and, like David, to serve God in our own generation:
“For when David had served God’s purpose in his own generation he fell asleep.” Acts 13:36
“Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the law… and do this, understanding the present time. The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation (glorification) is nearer now than when we first believed. The night is nearly over; the day is almost here. So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Let us behave decently, as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. Rather, clothe yourselves with the Lord Jesus Christ, and do not think about how to gratify the desires of the sinful nature.” Romans 13:8, 11-14

Groups for Men
L.E.A.D. Groups (weekly) (Listening Encouragement Accountability Devotion)
There are three worlds (*see below THE THREE WORLDS...) in which a godly man is called to oversee, to shepherd, to lead. This life is a test—a purifying for That Day. We are saved (justified) by believing in Jesus—the one who paid the price for our sin. Yet, Paul tells us to work out our salvation (sanctification) with “fear and trembling;” to stop complaining and start shining in this evil world (Phil. 2:12-14). These LEAD groups are one way we do just that. We hang out the 2nd & 4th Fridays @ the Paul home in South Scottsdale ● 6:00—8 pm All men, young men & boys (9+) are invited & encouraged to come! Bring $4 for food & a soda. Got questions? Call Mike Paul @ 480.990.7758 or Pastor Michael @ 480.203.9189.
In groups of 3-5 men, we discuss and face these worlds. We learn to listen to each other and encourage each other to man up.
MT. YO. (Men Together. Young and Old.) The Lord has an awesome plan for this generation of our young men—and so does the enemy. The Lord’s plan: to raise up an army of godly men. The enemy’s plan: to steal, kill and destroy their lives. What will more guarantee that our young men will be mighty warriors in the Kingdom? When the older men at DSC make that simple, gutsy effort and spend a little time with our younger men. Your presence is usually the deciding factor. Your task: show up, eat, hang out, enjoy the young men, have fun. Now that’s not too much to ask.. |
